Knit Notes Issue #5

Issue #5 of Knit Notes should be on it's way to subscribers.  I am happy to have the HTML version delivered today and hope that you all will let me know if you do not receive it or have issues with anything regarding your subscription.  I have placed a widget in my sidebar to make subscribing to the HTML version, easier.  You'll find it on my left sidebar. 
I think this is an improvement over the text edition for several reasons.  However, many newsletters remain text editions, largely due to the ease of email delivery for most people.  So, if you would like to continue to receive Knit Notes in it's original text format, just let me know.   

In this week's issue you'll find some nice links I think you will enjoy,  as well as a tutorial for adding a favicon to your blog.   So, if you aren't a subscriber, give it a look-see.  I think you'll like it.

New Issue, New Scarf

Here is a project I have been working on, little by little, for some time now...perfect T.V. knitting, not that I get to do very much of that.   I was going to be oh-so-clever and take some stunning shots (a la B r o o k l y n t w e e d) of the finished scarf with my son, Ian (the colors really do complement his blue eyes).  He would have none of that, of course, and I have been able to add only about an inch here and there (the darn thing still is not quite as long as my husband likes it) so no grand pics yet, but they are coming. 
I love the simplicity of this pattern and classic look of this scarf.   I'd like to knit one in a solid tweed yarn, one color, on smaller needles.  I think it'd be gorgeous, and just my kind of scarf.

Exciting News

First, my blogging machine is back, and functioning!  Finally!  It took 3 returns via Fed Ex to receive this baby back in working condition.  Glad to have it.  (Yes, that's a pack of chocolate covered mint Oreos...what of it?)

I had to download all my favorite free-ware and set things up in Thunderbird for the Knit Notes newsletter, but I think I have everything covered now.  The third issue should already be in subscribers' email boxes.  Let me know if anyone is missing theirs.

Next, my son, Sam, has a film coming out December 25th 2007.  It is called 'The Great Debaters and features Denzel Washington (also directing) and Forrest Whitaker.  Sam is playing one of the Oklahoma City Debaters.  We are all so excited for Sam, and very proud!

Knit-wise, for now, nothing really all that earth shaking.  I am working on a classic wool scarf (more later) and a pair of white tweed socks.  I'll pass along the pics as soon as I have them.   

Re: the white tweed...I did attempt to knit Maia's Scherherazade's Slippers .  They are her Mystery Sock project for all us suckers out there who think we can knit...myself being the chief offendee.  (Hey, I never said there weren't people who could actually  knit)  Here is what the sock is supposed to look like so far:   (This is from Pat's blog-her lovely knitting)

I don't think that those side cables on my sock look like actual cables at all.  They look more like a mock cable, and that's being generous.   Clearly, this little pattern kicked my arse and I was, obviously, over confident to attempt it, despite Maia's warning that this is really an intermediate to advanced knitter project.   Oh well, you live, you learn.  The yarn is pretty, though, right?  I told you it was white tweed.

Knit Notes Newsletter

The second issue of Knit Notes is ready for distribution.  I have been working on this little brain child of mine for a few months now and am very happy with the results so far.  I have been looking for a way to share all of the interesting tid bits and information I find on the net and this is what I've come up with.

It is a text-only newsletter that I will be updating regularly.

To receive it, for now, you need only email me here with 'subscribe' in the subject line.  That's it, and I'll send my little collection of notes and links your way.  I have created a page (link on my left sidebar) with details about how to receive Knit Notes.    I hope all of you will let me know what you think, what you'd like to see, and if you found any of the information helpful.  The first, and now second issues are ready to go, so give them a read.   New issues should appear every Saturday.

*If you are wondering about whether or not patterns will be included, I am leaning in that direction.  I'd like to include some, but need to work on the logistics of publishing knitting patterns.  There are rights to consider and other legal issues.   However, if you have an original pattern you'd like to submit, by all means, send it my way.  I'll be sure to link to your site and give proper credit. *
