I sat down with my friend, Carol, from Shuttles, Needles, and Hooks, a few Saturdays ago, and she taught me the basics of spinning with a drop spindle. Thanks to her, I have this much yarn spun from some very nice wool roving I bought from her. I don't think that it cost more than a few dollars, but I have received so much enjoyment from spinning it. I have more left, and when I fill my spindle, as I understand it, I'll wind it into a ball, spin some more, wind that into another ball, and ply the two balls together. I am thinking of finding another color from Carol's shop to spin and ply with the pink. But I don't want to get ahead of myself. Now, if I can only get Ian to build me a spinning wheel in his Wood Shop class at school. I think the wine cabinet he was planning on making, can wait 'til next semester.
By the way, the poster behind him is of one of his favorite groups, Joy Division. (circa 1979, I think). Anyhoo, as you can see, he's all about a good time (you remember the lawn chair scooter incident), so I won't be holding my breath....but I will be reminding him that I want that wheel. Oh yes, he won't be forgetting it anytime soon.
